My old hard drive crapped out, was able to recover FYM program and installed on new hard drive but FYM thinks I'm a new player and I can't use my hectrain because it's already taken, any help should I just delete all FYM and start over?

You need to put all your files from your FYM data directory into the FYM data directory on the new computer. In old installations your data directory was under server1 under the installation. New (actually for quite a few years now) the installation will put your data directory in "%APPDATA%\Freight Yard Manager".

The only place I can find a FYM file is at C:\Users\Bill\Desktop\New folder\FYM and the only file in FYM is the server1

Assuming that "C:\Users\Bill\Desktop\New folder\FYM\server1" is on your old computer. If you haven't changed the FYM data directory on the new computer from how it was initially installed. You should just have to copy the contents of that server1 directory into %APPDATA%\Freight Yard Manager on the new computer.

In windows explorer you would literally type "%APPDATA%\Freight Yard Manager" and hit enter. It will take you to that directory. Usually %APPDATA% is like c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming. Please note that the AppData folder is usually hidden.

Well, every thing I try takes me to the new player set up options block and of course hectrain already exists so that locks everything up and I have to CTRL/ALT/Deleate to get out!

Something must not be right in what you did then. Could you list what you did exactly? Did you find the data directory on the old computer? Did you find the data directory on your new computer? Where you able to copy the files from the old computer to the new one?

So you have lost all those files (maps and trains) and need us to try and restore what we can from the server?

I would say yes I don't know if that will get me past the new player issue?

Your player information is in your data directory, along with all your trains and yards, on your old computer. If you don't have any of that then it sounds like we will need to restore all that data. I will send you an email with all that info. In the meantime please make sure you know where your FYM data directory is on your new computer. Again if you haven't changed that since installing the game on the new computer it would be in "%APPDATA%\Freight Yard Manager". You will need to put all these files I will be sending you in there.

Joe: I think this is hopeless, but here it is I try to find %APPDATA%\Freight Yard Manager the computer doesn't show it any where.
Windows installs FYM in Program files (86), when I try to get on FYM, it goes to setup new player options and then FYM says the program data is in C:\Users\Bill\Desktop\NewFolder\FYM\server1
I try to move it from x86 location to where the C:\Users but it doesn't change anything

I took the backups off the server for your yard Bill, so nothing is lost, whatever was in the yard is sitting there waiting for this to work itself out, and I ran the trains backed up on the server also

I think this is hopeless, but here it is I try to find %APPDATA%\Freight Yard Manager the computer doesn't show it any where. Go to View menu in your Folders>>>>>then navigate to Show more at the bottom>>>>Last option is SHOW HIDDEN FILES....Check that and APP Data should show up.
