hiyaa lads, i am having to reinstall windows, which in turn means that i have to reinstall FYM.
from what i gather that means that i need to:
1. copy the ...AppData\Roaming\Freight Yard Manager folder to a external storage/upload to a drive 2. reinstall fym, create a fake and temporary username and do nothing on it 3. close fym then replace the AppData\Roaming\Freight Yard Manager with the old one (from external storage/google drive) 4. relaunch fym and it should work?
i am reinstalling windows while keeping "personal" files. i think that means that it will uninstall all programs that are able to be found on the control panel, whilst not deleting any other files (such as pictures folder, downloads folder, etc)
let me know about anything im being silly about!

Step 1 is not necessarily ...AppData\Roaming\Freight Yard Manager. It is wherever "Game data location" says it is in the original install.
Step 2 do nothing except determine where "Game data location" is. That's the only reason to open FYM at all at this point.
Step 3 is not necessarily ...AppData\Roaming\Freight Yard Manager. It is wherever "Game data location" says it is in the new install.
If your windows work does not affect your "Game data location" (which it probably will not, given your description), you will not have to do anything after you reinstall FYM after the windows work. The only thing you need to do in that case is to point "Game data location" to the same place it was before you disturbed the original install.

The worst just happened, I lost my entire game data folder! Reinstalling windows apparently also meant that it wipes everything in the AppData directory, where literally everything is. I thought that it'd be safe, since I picked the option to "keep files". I can't believe I just did that  I even lost 10 trains on the hard drive! I'll make a post about my absence. But now I'm unsure what to do now. I can't believe I actually did that :< |

hello everyone! apparently i reinstalled windows incorrectly last time i did it i did it locally instead of the correct method which is to reinstall windows via external hd. (reinstalling locally reuses files, the same corrupt files from my previous installation. so there are remnants of old .dll files, which are really bad and do not work) i want to know what else to send/backup to my spare laptop and google drive. im going to be backing up my game data folder to my [spare] laptop and google drive, and also uploading my trains in-yard to the server before i go ahead and reinstall windows via external hd. is there anything else that i need to backup? (everything on my hard drive will be erased) |
